Having that DAWG mentality
I’ve been working with a junior college baseball team.
Early in the fall, I had a Zoom call with the squad, and I asked the players to type in their thoughts / self-talk / mindset keywords.
What’s the phrase you say to yourself that helps you DIAL IT IN?
Multiple players wrote down the same thing.

GOT THAT DAWG IN ME
DAWG MENTALITY.
We went through the session talking about a bunch of things about self-image, what we bring to the table, and how our body language can impact our environment (as well as inside our head). But the dawg mentality phrase STUCK with me.
Let’s unpack this.
I love the concept- because it captures a lot of the positives that we can learn from dogs.
Dogs are always ready to go. The minute they see you stand up…it’s GO TIME.
Always ready to have fun.
They are fully PRESENT in the moment. They aren’t worrying about the results. The opinions of others. The amount of work they need to do.
They’re all about hauling ass and getting to that tennis ball. Singular mission.
Dogs are GAMERS. They’re not afraid to play games and compete at the drop of a hat.
They care for others.
As elite athletes, performers, or business executives…we can bring that DAWG mentality everywhere we go. We can always be ready to run, be ready to have fun in the present moment, and chase after that one thing…one thing at a time. And…COMPETE.
Let’s bring that DAWG mentality this week.
